Q. What if I have too many thoughts?
Q. What if I can’t focus?
Q. Will it interfere with my religion?
Q. What makes your teaching different?
Q. What if it doesn’t work for me?
Q. What if I have too many thoughts?
A. That’s not a problem. Really! Often people tend to think that this meditation method won’t work for them because their mind is too chatty or too skittery. You’ll learn why you have so many thoughts, why it’s not a bad thing, and more importantly, you’ll learn fool-proof techniques that will calm your mind without effort.
Over and over again, people who come to the course with Chatty Cathy minds and overstressed bodies are astonished when they notice their mind becoming still and their blood pressure going down.
A. That’s not an issue. If you can listen to someone in a conversational setting, you have enough focusing ability to learn everything you need. The Stop the Mind Spam approach doesn’t use the stereotypical meditation methods of “concentration” and “focus”. We start with where your mind is at right now, no matter how chattery or how distracted, and have a way of gently causing it to settle down naturally—and this is the important part—without effort. So there’s no trying to meditate or trying to get it right. This is completely different.
Put another way: there’s no pre-existing condition that you need to satisfy in order to learn the Stop the Mind Spam method and receive the full benefit. Come as you are, come innocently, and see for yourself. You have nothing to lose, except your chatty mind and the wrinkles on your forehead.
Q. Will it interfere with my religion?
A. No, not at all. This meditation teaching isn’t about beliefs or faith or devotion or philosophies, so it won’t conflict with your religion. On the other hand, if you do follow a religious path, this practice deepens your appreciation and understanding of the truths you’ve heard. For instance, you’ll find that the words of your faith’s saints or wise souls will resonate with your newfound inner experience.
Q. What makes your teaching different?
A. We take the time to gently introduce this new skill of meditation to you so that you don’t feel overwhelmed. Typically, our course is spread out over four weeks so that you can practice what you’ve learned and get feedback, which is essential. After all, if you’re not 100% clear about what you’re doing, then you’ll feel frustrated or feel that you’re wasting your time. And that’s no fun.
We also don’t teach a philosophy, or have a religious or spiritual teaching to muddy what should be simple, direct and easy. In other words, this practice is fully compatible with your current spiritual practice, if you have one.
Many forms of meditations have many different purposes. Some are bound to a spiritual teaching and are limited to their specific domain. Others are focused on developing subtle energies or psychic abilities, which can create a belief in specialness. Some forms of meditation are not even effective; they simply don’t work! The techniques that make up the Stop the Mind Spam arsenal are specifically designed to structure an awareness of the infinite aspect of ourselves, and to do so during the midst of activity as well as in more traditional closed-eyed meditation. From this space of touching the infinite within, all manner of mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual avenues of growth spontaneously develop rapidly. In other words, it’s not necessary to focus on stress relief or spiritual development if your tools are doing their job; you will automatically de-stress and spiritually grow, and your progress will be obvious to you.
Q. What if it doesn’t work for me?
A. It’s true that some meditation practices do not work. Or they only work for a subset of personality types. The “Stop the Mind Spam” teaching is completely different in how it functions—it works for everyone of any age, religion, education level, you-name-it. (Why? Read about it here.)
Of course, it won’t do a thing for you if you really don’t want to learn, but of the hundreds who I’ve personally taught, including those who have been dragged along by their well-meaning spouse, I haven’t found one person who received no benefit, or felt that the benefit was a lucky blip.
An ethical teacher of any stripe will stand behind their craft, offering a satisfaction guarantee so you can feel safe knowing that you have nothing to lose. That’s the “Stop the Mind Spam” promise: you must be satisfied of your money back. Of course you have to use it to know if it works for you, but we’re confident it will, and we’re confident that you’ll want to use it. Not using it will be like not having your morning cup of coffee, or not going for a morning jog, or … you get the idea.
